Well, after months of enforced internetlessness (how about that for a word?) I have net access again. Admittedly I'm using my iPod and an unsecured connection until the Virgin man comes to install mine (go faster, time!), but it's better than nothing.

Anyway, I'm now trying to decide whether to keep this account open, close it and open another (bit of a change and all that) or just abandon LJ completely. Hmmmm.

Hope you're all doing ok.

startron linked this post and I'm doing the same to spread the awesome: How To Meet and Woo a Nerdy Girl. This entire entry is made of undiluted, geeky win.

♥ In a comment about my reaction to the death of Michael Jackson (to recap: "meh") I was linked to the video below (thankyou acidpenguin46!). WATCH IT. WATCH IT.

Warning: If you find strong language or a distinct lack of respect for the dead offensive then, actually, don't watch it.

♥ And finally: whedonland. This is an interactive community for Joss Whedon fans. You sign up for a team (Team Dollhouse, Team Buffy, Team Angel or Team Firefly) and compete for points. There is an apocalypse (round) every four months (you can join any time during the round). The team with the most points averts the apocalypse.

Tasks and activities vary (graphics, writing, trivia, etc.) and it's looking to be pretty fun so far. Go join!

I just had a look at the cast list for Tim Burton's version of Alice in Wonderland. It. Is. EPIC.

The highlight? Stephen Fry plays the Cheshire Cat.

Stephen Fry. Cat. OMG.

I absolutely cannot wait to see this film.

Even if it does contain Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. Y'know. Again.

♥ I have opened YET ANOTHER ACCOUNT. This one with del.ici.ous. Which is stupid because I really shouldn't be spending more time on the computer.

♥ YET MORE GEEKERY: I have discovered Firefox Personas. They're pretty fucking awesome. I'm using the Viva Firefox one at the mo, because it's cute. Also because it doesn't confuse the hell out of my eyes by being a radically different color from Firefox's usual.

In other news |   I am going to hell; my response to the news of Michael Jackson's death pretty much boiled down to 'Oh, good'. o_o

Dear God I'm bored. I've been randomly mooching around LJ and it's gotten to the point where I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT I'M READING ANYMORE.

I'm actually considering just repeatedly bashing my head against my desk; it would probably be more productive.

On a slighly different note, has anybody looked through some of the academic comms on here? Because they are seriously rubbish; they just don't get updated. WHERE IS YOUR GEEKY PASSION FOR ALL THINGS SCIENTIFIC, PEOPLE? WHERE, GODDAMMIT?

Lack of pain is almost a sensation in itself. It's bloody incredible.

Between painkillers, applying heat and actually being able to concentrate on something I'm not feeling the toothace that's been bugging me for most of the last 24 hours. It's making me a little weird. Good weird though.

I'm actually in a good mood, despite the fact that I had to keep getting up last night because of the pain and I have a 13.5 hour shift ahead of me. It's a little odd.

On another note: icons.

♥ I don't like people.
♥ I refuse to reward stupid behaviour.
♥ I am sadistic.
♥ I am a bitch.
♥ Most people like me about as much as I like them.
♥ The people I DO like are pretty fucking awesome, because you have to be for me to give a crap about you.
♥ I am just a little too honest.
♥ I am a very, very angry person.
♥ I try really, really hard not to give a crap about what people think; sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

♥ And I am actually starting to be somewhat happy with this.

I ♥ Joss Whedon. I've only seen the first two episodes so far but I love it.

I was sort of curious about watching Eliza Dushku; both of the roles I've seen her in have been girls with attitude so I wondering what she'd be like in this. As it turns out she's fucking awesome. Her mannerisms are just so differnent from those of Faith and Tru that I find her character, Echo, fascinating.

Also, with Whedon's tendency to cast people from previous productions of his I've been playing the spot-the-actor game. So far (apart from Dushku, obviously) I've spotted Amy Acker (Fred from Angel) and the guy who played Badger in Firefly. Also, the 'man behind the grey matter curtain', whose name currently escapes me, seems familiar. Can't place him though.

Basically, another Whedon-series to fangirl over. And icon. Must icon.

Seriously. I went in there last Sunday and spent £50 on books, tired enough not to be bothered about the dent in my funds. I came out with:

Faust, Part I | Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Faust, Part II | Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
The Inferno | Dante Alighieri
The Difference Engine | William Gibson and Bruce Sterling
and William Blake: Selected Poetry and Prose

That's on top of High Voltage Tattoo by Kat von D, that I picked up on my break the same day.

And what am I actually reading? One of the second hand Discworld Novels I picked up weeks before, of course (Soul Music, in case you were wondering).

Don't even get me started on the stack of books I've had for ages but still haven't read.

As for 50bookchallenge this is as far as I've gotten:

cut just to break it up a bitCollapse )

It's not a great start but my reading has picked up a bit in the last few weeks. It's nice to be reading on a regular basis again.

Hellooooooo, everybody! I HAZ INTERNETZ!!!

My computer died shortly after my "yay my computer works!" post. I think that's called irony. I think I hate irony.

But I has a new one! I cannot tell you how much I missed the all-knowing Google.

Anyway, hope everyone's doing well and enjoying the start of summer! \o/
